"I don’t like the notion of voting people out of office as an election platform.
It undermines the credibility and intentions of those who have come before, and promotes change for its own sake."
For the most part, I have been pleased by my current councillors' actions and voting patterns within Guelph Council. I agreed with them when they tried to reduce the incentives for Tricar's second condo to $1.8 M instead of the amount that council ultimately decided on: $4.6 M. I too, would have voted against moving forward with the roundabout plans for St. George's Square. Gloria was right when she was looking for savings in the $34 M police headquarters renovation, and in her surprise that the south-end police would be leaving their freshly built new digs in the CRESC.
Moving forward, I am excited about the options for the Baker Street Lot development. It has a potential to solve multiple community and economic growth needs at once. This model of development could be applied to all wards. |
I am a firm believer in a balanced budget. I support a nominal YOY tax increase that matches inflation. I also believe in only borrowing for things that yield a good return, be it financial, in the form of economic growth, or social, in the form of improved quality of life.
Professionally, I have been involved in small and dynamic start-ups doing revolutionary discovery science through to very large and stable corporations delivering equally game changing technologies. Getting things done in such a range of situations has given me an excellent understanding of how organizations function, fail and succeed. I've also travelled extensively in my career and have had the privilege to visit many cities. It has given me a solid appreciation of the things that make cities great and livable. |
